18 Dec Why I Quilt
If You received a gift if a few Undisturbed hours, what would you do? Clean the house? Cook? Read?
Why do we quilt? The joke you always hear” why do you buy large pieces of fabric, just to cut them up and sew them together again?” We do! Quilting is so much more than that- and if you’re reading this, you get it; you need to sew, touch fabric, drool over threads-as though your very next breath depended on it. Quilting nourishes our souls, warms our hearts, enables us to feed our creative spirit, to create something of beauty from fabric and thread, to express ourselves, to foster healing in others, to celebrate life and to honor death or loss. We as quilters have the ultimate gift and I am so grateful.
So of course, as much as I love to cook, garden or read , quilting is always my upmost guilty pleasure! I quilt in different ways; sometimes as quickly as I can(leadfoot) and sometimes to heal myself but, tackling and learning to further my skills with a different new technique or pattern-, when the light of understanding shines; and I finally get it! What a moment of joy! So please always remember your quilting journey is about you and your personal desires and create. Be fearless, in quilting no one is going to tell you to just”mouth the words and not sing” let your voice be heard!
Enjoy every moment, guilt free!
Rushing through the holidays making gifts; steal some time to create something for yourself and savor the small things: enjoy the process and it’s simplicity. Straight , even 1⁄4” seams, cutting straight! Piecing with care, having seams and points that meet, whether your colors are bold or subtle- enjoy the process.
